What is Sunken Eyes?

The issue of sunken eyes is an often talked about between People, with most People associating this condition with Vegans. Some also state that it could be a medical problem and tend to threaten a Person's daily life. 

A person eye is said to be sunken when their eyes seem deep and darkened. The state of this condition presents the Person with a gloomy, pale, sleep deprived, and very tired look. People with this may suspect an underlying infection and thus get desperate.

Good news is that in most cases of sunken eyes [more like inconsistent occurrences] are not considered a medical problem.

What causes Sunken Eyes?

Sunken Eyes can be due to many causes like aging and many other reasons. They result due to poor nourishment of the muscles and skin under the eyeballs. These muscles weaken and present the individual with an exhausted, pale, sleepy, etc appearance.

The food which provide with nutrients capable and efficient enough to prevent or correct sunken eyes are excluded. They are meats and fishes.


It can be as a result of reduced sleeping time. According to medical professionals and health institutions, adults are said to need a minimum of eight to nine hours of sleep each day. Not being able to consistently reach this required time by the body, People seem to appear exhausted and unhealthy.

Iron deficiency in diet is another factor that results in sunken eyes. This iron deficiency causes laxity of the muscles and skin around the eyes with atrophy of the fat which surrounds the eyeballs.

Absence of Vitamin C and Vitamin K in diet are also protagonists of sunken eyes in People. The eyes thus appear tired and shrunk, with a puffy appearance under the eyes.



How to correct Sunken Eyes?

Most Vegans do not know, or rather skip certain contents in their diet that play major role in correcting or preventing the occurrence of sunken eyes.

Meat and fishes which are major containers of iron and vitamin K can still be eluded by including in daily diet; dark green leafy vegetables like, spinach, kale, sprouts, brussels, etc to help prevent or correct a  sunken eye state.

Getting enough sleep for at least eight hours each day. Sleep helps the body recover from the stress of the past day and ensure an uninterrupted metabolism throughout the body.
