Study has suspected the possibilities of stroke due to veganism

Stroke risks of Vegans

Stroke results from a sudden breakage or blockage in blood vessel inside the brain.

Being a Vegetarian as people will say comes with lots of self discipline and sacrifices. Sacrifices includes getting rid of meat, and thus limited to certain nutrients that come with it.

According to studies, Vegetarians possessed a lesser risk to heart diseases per a thousand people (British Medical Journal) compared to meat eaters. What does the survey say about the dangers of a Vegan falling to stroke?

Researches also proved the independence of stroke to a Person's diet as experts suggests eating a wide range variety of food could mean being on the safe side.

The study also stated that Vegans possessed a greater risk to stroke, two to three times more than meat consumers.

Data from EPIC-OXFORD Study, which has worked on diet and health studies stated that half of people recruited between the early 1990s and 2001, which were meat consumers, just approximately over 15,000 Vegans, with 7,000 which were fish consumers.

GET RID OF SUNKEN EYES

In 2010 when they joined the again, they were asked of their diets, with smoking and and other physical activities taken into account.

There were about 3,000 cases of coronary heart disease (CHD) and about 1,000 cases of stroke.

The meat eaters recorded a 14% and 23% higher risk of Coronary Heart Disease than the fish consumers and Vegans respectively.

Vegans also recorded a 20% higher risk of stroke, with allegedly poor vitamin B12 levels. It is also possible this may be due to the lifestyle the people and not necessarily their diet.

What should a diet be like?

According to diet advise by the NHS (Britain's National Health System): a person's diet should contain;

  1. Protein
  2. At least five portions of fruits and vegetables a day
  3. Dairy and dairy alternatives
  4. Foods with high fat, salt, and sugar content should be eaten in lesser proportion

Vegans should ensure consumption of yeast, wholemeal flour, and dried fruits as they provide with vitamin B12 and Iron which is missing in other regular Vegetarian diet.

These nutrients are delicate to preventing stroke and Coronary Heart Disease.
